Rain Jacket, men's & women's

$55.00 $49.50

Hire for up to five nights. NEED LONGER?

It rains out here, sometimes a lot. Then there's the wind: source of Three Capes landscape features such as Hurricane Heath and Tornado Flats. We've chosen jackets that are light enough to feel comfortable (and not sticky!) and roll into your pack neatly, but are most definitely waterproof and will keep out the fierce Tasman wind. Made from waterproof breathable three-layer Reflex fabric in men's and women's styles and sizes. Unsure about your size? Check the sizing chart at the bottom of the page.

Sleeping Bag & liner

$50.00 $45.00

Hire for up to five nights. NEED LONGER?

Yes, you could borrow the sleeping bag that Uncle Ted used to take duck-shooting... but modern sleeping bags are compact and so much lighter and warmer. (The PWS Three Capes Track packing list says that a -5° bag is needed; note that this is a lower limit measure – and it's not actually below freezing all year round here – in spite of what you fear). We offer a mix'n'match assortment: Bags (all degree rated on the EN13537 scale): • +5° (lower limit 0°) down bag (great for warm sleepers in summer) • 0° (l.l. -4°) synthetic bag (sturdy) • -1° (l.l. -8°) ultra-light down bag (oh so light! oh so small!) • -8° (l.l. -15°) down bag for those who are really REALLY afraid of the cold, and/or vampires. Liners: • our standard stretchy t-shirt material liner (cuddly) • a toasty 'Thermolite Reactor Extreme' liner which increases sleeping bag performance by a few to several degrees (depending on how warm you sleep) • a silk/cotton liner (teeny tiny and super light) Confused? To find out how the temperature rating works, click here.  To those for whom too much reading about sleeping bags and liners is never enough (Ian), head for the bottom of the page. Those who care about weight (Gail) can find them in the drop down menus. NB: If you are taller then 180cm, choose a long bag from the options below to make sure it keeps you comfy.

I haven’t been on a multi day hike in years hence the need to hire the basics. The pack was comfortable, sleeping bag more than warm enough, fortunately didn’t require the wet weather gear but looked sturdy enough. Only issue was the cup in the mess kit – too small. Delivery & pick up of gear to my hotel by Ian & Gail couldn’t have been easier.

  2. Mandy Dean

If you’re new to multi day hiking this package is great, you get to hire some great equipment before you buy the gear. Gail met us at the airport with the packs, makes sure they fit correctly and gives you tips on packing. Three Capes Gourmet makes it easy.

  3. Mark Lowrey

I’m a hiking novice, so this pack was perfect for me. Ian and Gail were very helpful getting our party kitted out for the walk. We had everything we needed, as well as some very helpful expert tips.

  4. Bethell

This package was fantastic for me as a first-time hiker. Ian and Gail were so friendly and helpful and took a lot of time and care explaining all the gear and making sure it was the right size. It was all top quality – the pack was extremely comfortable and the rain jacket was perfect for the one wet day we had on the walk. The drop-off and pick-up service was excellent and meant I could travel light to and from Hobart for the walk. I’d strongly recommend this option if you haven’t got your own gear or want to travel light on the way to Hobart.

  5. Julieta Woosley

We love hiking but don’t do long trips often enough to own our own gear so being able to hire this was ideal.
Gail and Ian were great to deal with and having them drop off and pick up the gear was the clincher.

  6. Gem Morris

The perfect pack for the novice hiker. The rucksack was light and comfortable but big enough to hold everything I needed for 3 Capes; the sleeping bag and inner sheet kept me toasty warm and scrunched down to a very small & light package; and the rain jacket was ideal. Most of all, Ian and Gail’s excellent service and friendly approach were fantastic, taking some of the stress off for this first-time hiker!

    Three Capes Track, July 2018

    Backpack
The pack was fantastic. It sits off your back keeping you cool as you hike. It is easy to adjust so you can distribute the weight around your hips and shoulders. Handy snack pockets keep your scroggin within easy reach. The pack also has a pouch for a hydration pack with a hole at the top for the straw to poke through. Plenty of room for everything required for a 4 day hike. Came with a waterproof pack liner and a waterproof rubbish bag which was much appreciated.

    Sleeping bag
Very warm for a lightweight bag (I had the one rated to -1) and stuffs easily into the bag. Nice and small.

    Jacket
I didn’t really use this much, even in July, however it was warm, wind proof, and comfortable. Thankfully no rain on our hike, so can’t vouch for its waterproofness.

    Meal kit
Probably a bit bulky, but it’s solidly built. I’d go without the plate next time as I didn’t use it.

Gail gave us a rundown on all the equipment prior to departure. The package is very customisable which is fantastic. Would highly recommend this pack for the 3 capes track.

  8. Lorraine

Great value bundle and good quality gear. Everything was clean and ready to use and as a first time, multi day walk this was perfect. The pack was a good size to fit lots of food and clothing in.
Ian and Gail do a great job with fitting it to you during the amazing drop of service!!

  9. Lindsay

We hired 2 bundles and added dinners. Equipment was fresh and of a high standard. The jackets were amazing..,warmth ..no rain this walk so didn’t get to try this aspect. The packs worked well with sizing and had all the features that we required. Delivery was excellent and pre delivery contact and arrangements also excellent. We will definitely use these guys again!

This is the manufacturer’s measurement advice: have fun with the measuring tape.
Length top of hip to top of shoulder
S  35-40cm
M  40-50cm
>45cm

(But where does the hip end? And what is the top of a shoulder? Do they have bottoms as well?)
In general, if you don’t know about yourself that you have a very long torso or very long legs as part of your height (and people who do, do tend to know) we think:
below 161(ish!) cm: Small
161– 175cm: Medium
above 175(ish!): Large

They’re comfy, we promise …
