Not essential, but pretty gosh-darned happy-making in cooler weather. Capacity: a two-cup standard 500ml. Pair with miso soup for a lunchtime boost, or just keep it ready for that afternoon-coffee pick-me-up.
We took one of these to help us make dehydrated lunches on the track. If you’re into that sort of thing, or you like a cup of tea with your rest stop, this was a great flask, since 500ml of water is plenty, and it’s more lightweight and sturdy than my thermos at home.

We walked in Summer, and only used this on one of the days. Whilst it was great to have a cuppa on track, I wouldn’t take a flask on my next overnight hike. Every bit of weight sure adds up! Lots of water and kettles in the huts for hot drinks at the end of a days walk.

This is a must for those hiking in Winter. A hot cuppa was a treat whilst on the track.
