Gail’s perfect day meal pack

Gail’s more of your yuppie opportunistic omnivore: it’s said about her (by Ian) that if there was brontosaurus on the menu she’d try it, just to see. No exotic nose-to-tail eating on the track, but something a bit flavourful to get you through the day – I mean, just because you’re in the wild, doesn’t mean you have to eat 2-minute noodles and UFOs (Unidentifiable Foodlike Oblongs), right? Optional extras: (or, for Gail, essentials) coffee, miso soup and negroni cocktails. Because she can.

Secretly healthy pikelets and maple syrup

It's luxurious AND healthy all at once, with hazelnut meal, seeds and quinoa for some slow-burn energy to go with your sugar. Mix some cold water into the batter and some warm water into the maple syrup (no kidding!) and enjoy your wholesome treat.

Ian's scroggin

Some people call it trail mix, others call it gorp ("good old raisins and peanuts" or "granola, oats, raisins, peanuts", depending on who's telling the story) but to us it will always be Ian's special scrog – his own custom recipe of dried fruits, nuts, seeds and a secret sugary snack for a healthy boost of energy on the track. There are two big handfuls in the bag; enough for a hilly day. It's GF and vegan friendly.

Forager Freeze dried fruits

Do you like chips? Do you like fruit? Do you like trying new things just because you've never seen them before? If you answered yes to any of the above, consider this addition to our snack range. Made in Tasmania, these freeze-dried fruits offer a snappy fresh taste in seriously tiny gram weight. Just like a chocolate milkshake healthy apple (or blueberry) only cruncheeee....

Pyengana cheese

Oh heaven – exquisite cheeses with your spectacular view. We offer vac-packed individual portions of • Pyengana’s nationally-renowned traditional (12 months old) and cloth-matured goat (12–15 months old) cheddars, and • Tasmanian Food Company’s mild cheddar and peppercorn cheddar. NB: it's hewn sections of cheese, so not an exact weight. Your wedge will be around-about 150g of fromage fabulousness.

Crispbread or wrap with protein

Your choice of cracker with a choice of meat. You might also want to add some zesty hummus, some awesome cheese or a delicious tomato salsa ... Cracker choice: 2 x Thin Rice Cakes 2 x Multigrain Wraps 2 x Gluten-Free Tortillas 4 x 9-Grain Vita-Weats 2 x Ryvitas With a sachet or tin of: Salmon pieces with mild red chilli Chicken with mustard mayo Tuna For gluten free, be sure to select the options marked (GF)

Farfalle pesto

Home-made basil, garlic, pine nuts and some Grana Padano blended with olive oil to stir into dehydrated pasta for a deliciously fresh dinner.

Scrambled chocolate brownie

There are no ovens in Three Capes Track huts, but you only need a stove top (or camp cooker) and a frypan or small saucepan for this rich, scrambled-pudding dessert, which is our current family camping favourite. Delicious gooey chocolate, with strawberry sauce – what could possibly go wrong?

Coffee with percolator

Hire for up to five nights. NEED LONGER?

Aha! You are a serious caffeine addict, and you're prepared to suffer for your fix. You know that there are plungers at each of the huts that you can share (for which we can provide freshly ground coffee), but you're not a fan of plunger coffee taste and grit (we're looking at you, Gail...), or the clean up afterwards (that sound you hear is Ian gnashing his teeth ...). This percolator is the closest thing you'll get to proper espresso in camp. It's easy to use, easy to clean and what better way to start the day? 250g of Tattooed Nun blend (12 cups' worth) from Tasmanian coffee gurus Zimmah, freshly roasted and ground especially for the Aeropress completes the picture. Don't forget to order milk if you need it.

Miso Soup (2)

It's warm, it's delicious, it's salty – and if it's cold out there on the Peninsula, you're going to be grateful for these two light little packets that turn into 2 cup-sized serves of soul warmer.

Vacuum Flask

Hire for up to five nights. NEED LONGER?

Not essential, but pretty gosh-darned happy-making in cooler weather. Capacity: a two-cup standard 500ml. Pair with miso soup for a lunchtime boost, or just keep it ready for that afternoon-coffee pick-me-up.
